People often turn to a deity when confronted by difficult situations. They approach the deity who is close to their heart. But, those who are unaware of their Ishta Devata worship the deity who can solve their life problems. Likewise, various mantras, processes and pujas are undertaken to receive divine help.
According to scriptures and also as observed in common practice, people turn to Hanuman ji Maharaj when their astrological chart indicates tough periods or afflictions.
ॐ ह्रीं सर्वदुष्टग्रहनिवारणाय स्वाहा ॥
Om hreem sarva-dushta-graha-nivaaranaaya svaaha
Meaning: Obeisances to Shri Hanuman ji Maharaj , the remover of all harmful planetary afflictions.Srimad Ananda Ramayana-Manohara Kanda-13th Sarga
Sri Hanumanji Maharaj subdues the heat of problematic planets when we are humble and our prayers are sincere.

In many ways, He guides sincere seekers towards the highest spiritual attainment.
There are many prayers like the Hanuman Chalisa, Sunderkand, etc which are very popular amongst the residents of Northern Bharat. The Bajarang Baan is one such powerful process to appease Hanuman ji.
But, I would like to reiterate that this is an extremely precious and special prayer, not meant for regular times and ordinary problems. It should be recited only when instructed by a Guru who understands the intensity of your current situation. Reciting Bajarang Baan otherwise can lead to repercussions. We will discuss this point in detail later in this article.
Why Is Bajrang Baan Not Meant for Regular Problems?
Among mantras, the Om Hum Hanumate Namah Mantra holds immense significance. Likewise, among stotrams the Bajarang Baan holds a special place in Tantrika Traditions. Though the hymn appears in a vernacular (Avadhi language) poetic manner, it is regarded as a set of powerful mantras and chaupais (a set of rhyming couplets), that is the heart of Sri Hanuman Sadhana.
So, its power should not be underestimated as it directly embodies Hanuman ji’s Shakti. It is grace made available to the common man who is not well versed in the Sanskrit Language.
Exploring the Tantrik Power of Bajarang Baan
The Bajarang Baan has beejaksharas like Hreem, Hum, Cham, etc. These invoke the Tantrik Aspects of Hanuman ji Maharaj.
For example: In- ॐ ह्रीं ह्रीं ह्रीं हनुमंत कपीसा ।
There is a repetition of the Beejakshara Hreem thrice in a row invoking the raw energy of Devi Shakti. It is a well known fact that Hanuman ji Maharaj appears as a Tantra Devata, serving Bhagawati Shakti as revealed in the Sri Devi Bhagavatham. So, in this line, the reciter reminds Lord Hanuman about His abilities as the agent of the great Devi.

This makes the Bajrang Baan extremely powerful and all the more reason for one to avoid the chanting of the Bajrang Baan. Because, we as devotees would like to be connected with Sri Hanumanji permanently and not remember Him only at times of dire difficulty. So cultivation of Bhakti becomes very important.
Another example is the “Cham” Beeja repeating thrice in a line. This reinforces the extreme speed of Hanuman ji Maharaj and symbolizes the Vayu Tattva. The verse invokes Hanuman ji to destroy evil, negativity and other bad influences at the speed of wind.
What Does “Baan” Mean in Bajrang Baan?
The word Baan means an arrow. This word has been included for a good reason. There are many Beeja Aksharas cast at specific sections of the work that enhance the potency of the Bajrang Baan. They work like the arrows that never miss their mark.
Therefore it should not be chanted casually. One of the other prime reasons is that the Bajrang Baan is an earnest promise made in the midst of suffering. It is a desperate cry from unbearable misery, where the seeker calls upon Sri Hanumanji Maharaj with the force of complete surrender, as if saying, “Now only You can take this burden.”

The Bajarang Baan emphatically conveys this mood: “Oh Hanumanji, if You are Sri Rama’s servitor in the truest sense then come, help me.” So, the Prayer becomes more of a “command” or an oath binding Hanuman ji to come to our rescue.
Such a statement can only be uttered when suffering has almost blinded the individual with agony, when Divine Intervention becomes indispensable. Such faith is more out of agony, out of urgency to survive “the moment”.
Why Should A Person Be Careful with the Bajrang Baan?
This great hymn was devised out of mercy by Goswami Tulsidas, the great Bhakta of Sri Rama. An average devotee must not implore Sri Hanumanji Maharaj through the Bajrang Baan.
Guruji, being a humble servant of Sri Hanumanji Maharaj and the Guru Parampara, is of the viewpoint that the “Bajrang Baan should never be chanted”. This is because, only Sri Rama and His cherished devotees like Sri Goswami Tulsidas ji have the right to invoke Hanuman ji in a compelling mood.

Although under some circumstances, one may be permitted to chant the Bajrang Baan, we do not recommend invoking Sri Hanumanji Maharaj through provocatory invocations.
Most importantly, one should never weaponize the “baan” or arrow aspect to hit any enemy, like a Tantrik spell. It is bound to bring the downfall of the chanter who tries to invoke Sri Hanumanji for evil purposes.
This hymn is for defense purposes only. The moment it is directed to cause someone harm it backfires on the reciter. Sri Hanumanji is Sri Rama Bhakta first, whether in Tantrika form or in a devotee form, so no one should use Sri Hanumanji Maharaj to accomplish their ends.

Guru ji says that if a person has restrained his senses and served Bhagawan, through guidance from saints or even satsanga from sadhus, Karmas can be handled, however intense and insufferable they may appear to be.
Therefore, one should never invoke the great devotee Sri Hanumanji Maharaj by reciting the Bajrang Baan saying “If you are a true devotee of Sri Rama then you must help me…”
Then one may ask why was the Bajarang Baan written?
Why Did Goswami Tulsidas Give Such a Powerful Hanuman Hymn?
It is said that saints have the heart of a mother, who cannot see the society suffering. Goswami Tulsidas ji, the one who considered Sri Hanumanji Maharaj as his all, transcended the limitations of an ordinary devotee.

This extraordinary right was given to him by Sri Hanumanji Himself and thus the hymn containing Tantrik formulae that summons the mammoth form of Sri Hanumanji was revealed. This was the Bajaran Baan that was meant to help out the truly suffering brethren.
But Sri Guruji feels that people do not quite understand the depth of Sri Tulsidas ji’s heart. One may overlook the commitment that Sri Hanumanji has made to Sri Rama and the great sage Tulsidasji himself.
Everybody today is chanting the Bajrang Baan just for benefits and this is unfortunate as the mood of Bhakti is completely absent. For Guruji, this is painful.
Therefore he recommends that no one should think of chanting the Bajrang Baan. In the process of receiving personal benefit, one brings down Sri Hanumanji’s Rama Bhakti to a level that is too mundane.
Significance of Worshipping The Bajarang Baan
The Bajarang Baan is worshippable. We at YantraChants.com are of the opinion that the best way to invoke Sri Hanumanji Maharaj is through daily worship of the Bajrang Baan. While recitation can hurt the devotional mood and intent of the hymn, worshipping the Bajarang Baan is devoid of this drawback.

It is therefore recommended to worship the Bajarang Baan in the mood of surrender with fresh Tulsi leaves and flowers. We must remember Goswami Tulsidas ji daily while worshipping the Bajarang Baan for the kindness he has shown towards the society at large.
One can also install a small photograph of Goswami ji near the Bajrang Baan for better alignment. This is the most powerful way to invoke the Bajran Baan without any repercussions.
