As the name Rama Raksha Stotram suggests, Raksha means protection. The Stotram can be chanted for both material and spiritual protection. But, personally I will not recommend chanting Stotrams for material benefits.

According to some, the reciter energizes mustard seeds by touching them with one’s finger while chanting the Ram Raksha Stotram. The energised seeds bring victory to you and your family.

Also you can energise water in a copper vessel while reciting the Ram Raksha Stotram. Drinking this water speeds up the recovery of a patient. Note that the Rama Raksha Stotram is not supposed to be chanted by women during the menstrual cycle.

More than outer protection, one needs protection from one’s own mind. The Bhagavad Geeta says that ‘A mind that obeys is the best friend while the mind that dictates (commands) is the worst enemy of a person’. It is the mind that creates false enemies or makes us believe that somebody is our enemy. In reality there are 6 enemies that have hijacked a common man, who has very poor knowledge on Bhagawan. The 6 enemies are: Lust, Anger, Greed, Envy, Attachment and Pride. Unfortunately, these are called common and natural to human behaviour. However, these are threats, and it is due to the 6 enemies that we perceive threat in the living world. Through the grace of the Ram Raksha Yantra, a sincere worshipper develops awareness. With passing time, the light of awareness spreads throughout the mind, and the 6 enemies become weaker. If one intends to progress spiritually, one must take up a Sadhana regime (Purashcharana process) of the Sri Ram Raksha Yantra.
Structure of the Sri Ram Raksha Yantra
At the heart of the design lies the Beeja mantra “Rām Rāmāya Namah” inscribed within two interlocked triangles forming a six-pointed star, a Shatkona.
Upward and Downward Pointing Triangles
There are two interpretations in this regard- The first is in light of Bhakti while the second is in terms of Energy
The upward-pointing triangle in the Yantra represents Lord Rama, while the downward-pointing triangle represents Sita Devi. Together, they reveal the inseparable unity of the Divine Couple, showing that Lord Rama and Sita Devi complete one another and can never truly be apart.

Although it may appear that they experienced separation during their earthly pastimes, in reality, they are One. In the spiritual realm, there is no distance or division between them. They are essentially unified, but they manifest as two forms out of compassion, to allow devotees to approach them with love and personal devotion.
Goswami Tulsidas ji Maharaj beautifully expresses this in his prayers, bowing first at the feet of Divine Mother Sita and humbly asking Her to recommend his name to Lord Rama. In this tender exchange, Tulsidas ji knows that the Lord will never refuse a wish of His eternal consort. Through such devotion, the Bhagawan Sri Rama and Bhagawati Sita Devi appear as our eternal parents, so that every soul can pray to them with the innocence of a child.

The second interpretation focuses on the energy aspect. This central hexagram represents the union of Purusha (divine consciousness) and Prakriti (divine energy). The upward triangle symbolizes the masculine, radiant discipline of Rama; the downward triangle embodies Sita Devi’s nurturing grace. Their intersection generates spiritual equilibrium. When we meditate on this hexagram, all energy currents within the body are harmonized. One becomes grounded, finding a perfect balance between logic and emotion, between discipline and love, and most importantly between leadership and service. The devotee shall be able to amicably acquire the necessary trait to sail through life situations, with ease.
Names of 8 Great Associates of Lord Rama
Surrounding the star are the names and emblems of Lord Rama’s companions and their attributes. They are positioned in Harmonious symmetry.
1. Rashtradharm Lakshmana
Rāṣṭradharma is the adjective used to describe the very essence of Lord Lakshmana’s nature, and it carries a deep and subtle meaning. Rāṣṭra means “nation” or “kingdom,” while Dharma means “duty.” Together, they express the ideal of unwavering duty toward one’s nation or more profoundly, one’s divine center.
Many may believe that Ayodhya itself was Lord Lakshmana’s nation, as it is His birthplace. Yet the truth goes far beyond geography or rule. Ayodhya undoubtedly received fame and glory because of other illustrious kings of the Raghu dynasty. But, it has got the position of a Dham (sacred, liberating land) because of Sri Rama. In this way, it derives its sanctity and very identity from Lord Rama. Therefore, the true “nation” that Lakshmana served was not the city of Ayodhya, but Sri Rama Himself, who embodies the soul, sovereignty, and sanctity of Ayodhya.
In this deeper sense, Sri Rama is both the Lord and the Nation, the living ideal that Lakshmana dedicated his entire being to serve. Lord Lakshmana stood as the perfect citizen, the perfect brother, and the perfect devotee, fulfilling every duty with complete selflessness and love. Even as he carried out the innermost will of King Dasharatha by serving Rama, Lakshmana’s devotion reflected the highest form of Rāṣṭradharma wherein one is truly loyal to the Divine as the true ruler of one’s life and heart.
By meditating on Sri Lakshmana’s petal one is blessed with Vairagya.
2. Akop Angad

Anagada is one of the cherished devotees of Lord Rama. He is the son of Vanaraj Vali. Angad was appointed as a peace messenger from Lord Rama’s side. In the Ramcharitmanas, His speech is harsh but controlled, only stating the facts and truth about Sri Rama. His tone can be mistaken for anger, but it is with firm conviction. Anger is blind, it is aimless. But Angad’s words and tone were mindful, with the aim to awaken Ravana’s sleeping conscience. He wanted Ravana to save himself from doom because if Lord Rama would enter into the battlefield, Ravana and His dynasty would perish.
By meditating on Sri Angada’s petal one is blessed with Fearlessness and Calm.
3. Dharmapal Shatrughna
The word Dharmapal means guardian or protector of Dharma. Usually, these adjectives are used for a king. However, in this context it refers to Sri Shatrughna ji. The name of Shatrughna ji is also a mystery to many. This is because His name means- the destroyer of enemies. Throughout his life, he did not engage in many battles. Yet, he is called Shatrughna. The significance of this name lies in defeating the 6 enemies. In the domain of Bhakti, notably that of pride, which prevents one from bowing down.
It is Pride that stands as an impenetrable wall between Bhagawan and His devotee. Pride pulls one away from rendering service and it is averse to Humility, which is a key quality in Sri Rama Sadhana. Sri Shatrughna had mastery over all vices, especially Pride as He chose to be identified as the servitor of Sri Bharatha who in turn served Sri Rama. He embodied the spirit of Das Anu Das.

His service to Sri Bharatha was as deep, intense and pure as Sri Lakshmana’s service was towards Sri Rama. Unless one gets complete control of the 6 vices, Dharma cannot be followed or protected. Sri Shatrughna represents this very emotion.
By meditating on Sri Shatrughna’s petal one is blessed with Humility and Spiritual Service, which is bound to attract Sukriti (spiritual merit).
4. Sumanta Jambavan
Sumanta means a Good Advisor or the Intelligent One. Throughout the Ramayana, Sumanta plays an advisory role. He played a key role in revealing the prowess of Lord Hanuman. Due to this, Sri Hanumanji Maharaj leapt over the sea and reached the city of Lanka, to find Devi Sita. Jambavan, the son of Lord Brahma is the Intelligent One well versed in the Vedic Sciences and Dharma.
He was aware of Sri Rama’s true identity as Bhagawan. Who else can be more intelligent than Him who knows the Reality of Bhagawan? Thus, the title ‘Sumanta’ is conferred upon this great devotee.

By meditating on Sri Jamabavan’s petal one is blessed with purified intelligence through which one gets to know the Nature of Bhagawan.
5. Dhrista Hanuman
The Sanskrit/Hindi word धृष्ट (dhr̥ṣṭa) broadly means “bold,” “impudent,” “audacious,” or “having brash courage.” This is how a devotee should be. Lord Hanuman is Bhakt Shiromani who is strong and whose presence threatens even enemies. In the eyes of the enemies, Lord Hanuman is described as insolent. This is because he sabotaged the gardens and even the city of Lanka.

Similarly, by meditating on the Petal of Sri Hanuman ji Maharaj, one develops unshakeable courage, born out of unflinching faith in the Rama Nama.
6. Jayant Sugreev
Jayant means victorious. Sugreev has been a very meek Vanara, always dependent on advisors like Jambavan and Hanuman ji Maharaj. He was weak and incapable of combat with his brother Vali. Yet, he is described as Jayant. The reason is subtle and deep. Sugreev embodies the mood of total surrender (Sharanagati). He did not possess any exceptional quality in full, except total dependence on Bhagawan. This quality made Him a perfect recipient for grace, by which he not only emerged victorious against his brother Vali in battle but also he won the friendship of Lord Rama and Lord Lakshmana.

7. Vijay Bharata
The word Vijay means victory. It is commonly believed that conquering a kingdom, amassing wealth, overthrowing enemies etc are signs of victory. But, in the land of Sri Rama, these highly Rajasik activities (modes of material nature) cease to exist. So, why is the word victory appended to the name of Sri Bharath ji? This is because true victory does not lie in luxuries or material accomplishments, but through development of character, the right decisions taken and dharmic duties performed. Bharat ji, embodies the true spirit of victory which wins the heart of the Lord.
By meditating on Sri Bharata’s petal one is blessed with Pure Devotion or Bhakti.
7. Surasthra Visbheeshan

Earlier, the kingdom of Lanka (Rasthra) was ruled by Ravana who was an embodiment of Adharma. He caused the downfall of his clan. But, Vibheeshana was devoted to Sri Rama and his character was pious, sharp in contrast to his brother Ravana. Thus, under his rule Lanka regained its glory due to Vibheeshana.
By meditating on this petal, dharmic desires are fulfilled by the grace of Sri Rama.
These 8 names form a protective wall of devotion and virtue, reminding us that true protection lies in dharma and seva (service).
Bhupura, Devatas and their Weapons
Around this lies a 1 tier bhupura, that represents the ultimate abode of Saket Dham that lies beyond the 3 material realms namely Bhu loka (Earth), Swarga Loka (Heaven) and Patal Loka (Netherworld). The spiritual abode opens for the true devotee.
Outside its periphery lie the ashtadikpalas (devatas or specific corners) adorned with their specific weapons. They protect us from all directions, at all levels of human consciousness.
However, there is an inclusion of 2 prime deities Sri Brahma and Sri Sesha as well.

Lord Brahma symbolizes creation and the dawn of dharma. The Lotus. He represents divine order and purity (lotus). In the context of the Ram Raksha Yantra, Sri Brahma is present as the knower of Brahman representing a fully activated Sahasrara Chakra.
On the other hand, Ananta Sesha plays His role as the sustainer of the Universe, bearing the entire creation on His hoods and yet not feeling any burden. In the context of the Ram Raksha Yantra, Sri Ananta Sesha is identified as the constant protector, without whose grace the Universe would find no base, no existence. Thus, when meditating on the Sri Ram Raksha Yantra, one’s energy moves from Ananta (root stability) upward to Brahma (illumined awareness), symbolically ascending through the spiritual spine. Treading on this path, one finally reaches the periphery that separates the material and spiritual worlds.
A Glimpse into How Guruji Activates the Sri Ram Raksha Yantra
Like all sacred yantras, the Sri Ram Raksha Yantra must be awakened through mantra japa and Guru-sankalpa. The Guru awakens Sri Rama and Sita Devi along with the energies of the 8 Great Devotees. The activation not only involves mantras but also Smarana (Memory) of Paramparic Methods to Visualize the spiritual realm of Saket Dham.

At the very beginning of the auspicious start of Yantra Preparation, Lord Ganesha is invoked, followed by the necessary invocations of the gurus of the parampara, devatas, Sri Rama Bhaktas, followed by the recitation of Sri Rama and Sita Devi’s Beeja Mantra. The process of activation is done by the Guru of the lineage.
The activation should ideally be performed by the Guru, as only a self-realized Guru can transfer the pranic charge that transforms a drawn symbol into a living yantra.
However, once the yantra is activated (consecrated), it can be worshipped by both the initiated and non-initiated sadhakas. The mantras used by the two broad categories of sadhakas differ.
Mantras For Initiated Sādhakas
Those who have received initiation through a Guru should chant a minimum of 1 round (108 times) of the Rama Beeja Mantra and Sita Beeja Mantra each. The Sadhaka who has been initiated should be already following a pure vegetarian diet (No onion, no garlic, no non-veg), celibacy (for Grihastas as guided by the guru), no intoxication and no gambling (speculative/share market). This is a highly sattvik yantra and its effects get amplified when the Beeja Mantras given by the guru are chanted in front of it. Use a Tulsi Mala to do mantra japa.

Mantras For Non-Initiated Sādhakas
Those without formal initiation can also avail the grace of this powerful yantra. The criteria is regularity and sincerity, with faith and devotion.
The non-initiated sadhakas should only chant Nama Mantras.
One can chant the Sri Rama Ashtottara Shatanamavali and Sri Sita Ashtottara Shatanamavali. If time does not permit, the sadhaka can chant

Place the Sri Ram Raksha Yantra on a clean altar in the East or North-East (Ishanya).
Begin on a Thursday (Lord Vishnu/Sri Rama)), Friday (Devi/Srimati Sita Devi), or Ekadashi (Auspicious Sattvik Tithi). Keep the space uncluttered and pure. Light a diya, burn dhūpa, and offer sāttvik naivedyam such as fruits with tulsi leaves.

Express your intention, like for for Protection, Health, Devotion, Obstacle Removal, or Spiritual Growth. Do not chant anxiously; align your heart with service and surrender.
Daily Practice Flow
Begin with two minutes of quiet breathing, not yogic but your regular breathing with awareness this time. Gaze softly at the Yantra’s center where the Beeja Mantra is located. Let the mind settle. Now, recite Sri Ram Raksha Stotram followed by the mantra Sri Ram Jay Ram Jay Jay Ram for as long as comfortable. If you are not familiar with the Ram Raksha Stotram, do not hesitate to refer to the verses.
After finishing the recitation, let your attention move towards the outer petals wherein the great devotees are residing. Visualize yourself offering flowers at their lotus feet, moving from one to another while still chanting Sri Ram Jay Ram Jay Jay Ram. Do this in the clock wise direction. Feel Sri Sita Rama and the devotional blessings of His eternal family (8 Devotees). End the session with gratitude and brief silence.
Integration & Cautions
Follow this daily, for at least 40–90 days as a strict discipline. If travel interrupts your routine, you can either carry if arrangements for worship is possible or leave it in your home temple. However, continue chanting the Ram Raksha Stotram and the Sita Ram Mantra to stay connected with the Yantra’s energy. Keep the Geometry of the Yantra and the devotees present in the Yantra in your mind during mantra chanting.
