3 Mukhi Rudraksha: Burn Past Karma

Agni: The Principle Deity of 3-Mukhi Rudraksha

A depiction of Lord Agni, the two-headed fire god riding a white ram, who is the ruling deity of the 3 Mukhi Rudraksha.

The three-faced Rudraksha is revered as the embodiment of Agni, the Vedic deity of fire. In Vedic cosmology, Agni is referred to as the mouth of the Virat Purush. The mouth is the organ which consumes. Hence fire is the medium through which offerings to unseen beings (gods and ancestors) are made. Agni thus serves as a bridge between the physical and subtle worlds being the very first deity invoked in the Rig Veda. Without Agni, it is not possible to mediate with other realms.

Meaning: The Three-faced Rudraksha represents the three types of fires. The fire god Agni becomes pleased with him who wears this.

Rudraksha Jabala Upanishad, Verse 3

What are the three types of fires as indicated in this verse. They are

  • Garhapatya Agni: Grihapati means head of the house. Hence the Grahapatya Agni ran uninterrupted in ancient houses of the vedic times. It has a circular shape and is the source from which the other two fires are lit.
  • Āhavanīya Agni: It is the fire used for homa in which offerings such as ghee and havis are made to the devatas. This Yagya Kunda has a square shape.
  • Dakshinagni is derived from the Sanskrit word dakshin which means south. In this fire, offerings to ancestors (Pitrus) are made. This Havan kund is of a semi-circle in shape.

5 Benefits of 3-Mukhi Rudraksha

1. Removes the Burden of Past Karma

Man functions under the influence of three types of Karmas. They are Sanchit, Prarabdha and Agami Karma.

  • Sanchit Karma refers to the actions committed in the past. Depending on whether they were good or bad, our present life is shaped.
  • Prarabdha Karma refers to the events happening right now in the present. They are influenced by Sanchit Karma. It is like repeating the fruits of your savings account.
  • Agami Karma represents the karma that lies in store for us depending on what kind of actions we performed in the present.

These three kinds of Karmas are represented by the three mukhis of this rudraksha. Sometimes, one may feel strangely bound by their past actions. A person may look educated and socially normal, yet live under the silent weight of old regret, hidden anger, trauma or inferiority complexes developed years ago.

Those past impressions still influence the quality of one’s life even though the trigger is irrelevant today.

One may unexpectedly feel low or experience mood-swings without any prior reason. Sometimes even the true trigger behind one’s sorrow is forgotten. One may not exactly remember the event because some impressions even come from past lifetimes.

2. Helps Reduce Guilt and Anxiety

A person may decide to never tolerate something in the future. But when the next time comes, one may internally know not to give in, but still operate in the same old way. It is not that the desire to break free is missing.

The past heaviness and compulsions however block the willpower from manifesting. The person is too absorbed in his own thoughts that the inner resolve remains buried within. This guilt increases every time because no tangible action is made to break free from the pattern.

These impressions form subconscious knots in the psyche called saṁskāras in yoga. Prayer helps. But one also needs physical spiritual support in the form of the 3-mukhi Rudraksha that has the transformative energy of the Agni tattva.

Wearing the 3-Mukhi rudraksha pendant near the heart region helps destroy all the old sanchit karma. One begins to feel lighter with time and the dragging heaviness dissolves. The rudraksha helps seekers deal with feelings of self-criticism.

This bead supports those who are tired of being chained to an old version of themselves. In yogic philosophy, inner transformation requires tapas generated through austerity. This bead thus supports the inner fire needed to bring lasting positive change.

Importance of an Energized Rudraksha Mala

There are so many Rudrakshas available in the market. But what makes the rudraksha truly powerful? Just as there are so many vigrahas or deities available in stores. But the process of Prana Pratihistha invites the Divine to reside in them. Similarly energization of Rudraksha breathes the transformative power into it, just like the process of Prana prathishtha.

Each Rudraksha needs to be energized in the wearer’s name so that it works specifically for their wellbeing and intention. Each rudraksha in yantrachants.com is energized by Guruji following the procedures of the Ramanandi Sampradaya in the name of the wearer. The rudraksha thus becomes your personal companion. Aligned to your specific frequency.

3. Supports Spiritual Growth and Knowledge

Agni has a transformative nature. It changes things from one state to another. For example when the hot rays of the sun touch the sea, the water becomes vapor by the process of evaporation. Similarly fire changes the physical and chemical properties of a substance by turning it into ashes.

This transformative ability is revered in spiritual practice for the whole aim of spirituality is to transform and purify our inner impurities. Our negative tendencies are purified by the fire of sadhana. They then become eligible to be offered at the feet of Lord Shiva as Bhasma or applied on the forehead as Vibhuti. The three mukhi rudraksha has the power of this transformative agni.

Even in the physical body, fire or dahagni in the digestive system is used to break down food into simpler forms.

Thus fire aids in digestion. True learning also requires the seeker to digest raw information and churn insights using his lived experience.

Knowledge without the fire of understanding remains mere information. It is nice to hear, but not powerful enough to make a difference. The 3-Mukhi is very useful here. It makes your Swadhyaya fruitful, helping you derive the subtler understanding that only spiritual practice can grant. It is also believed to strengthen focus and discipline in spiritual practice.

So this is not only a bead for “burning negativity”; it helps a student or sadhaka to concentrate and get a better understanding of his/her subject without falling prey to distractions.

4. Balances the Manipura Chakra

A man in deep meditation with a glowing yellow Manipura chakra symbol at his solar plexus, which is balanced by wearing a Teen Mukhi Rudraksha.

The Manipura Chakra is the centre that gives initiative to act and defend oneself when needed. Many great leaders possess a highly active manipura chakra. When this chakra is blocked, a person struggles with inner doubt.

They know they have to act, but do not muster the courage to take action. An imbalance in Manipura chakra can also lead to fluctuating confidence, social comparison and inferiority complex because the self-belief is missing. Wearing the 3 mukhi rudraksha awakens the fire element and brings an action oriented quality into your life. You start leading not just by words but through your actions. The Rudraksha helps overcome delay and self-doubt.

5. Helps With Frustration and Pent up Anger (For Afflicted Mars)

Traditional artwork of the Hindu deity Mangal (Mars) riding a ram, representing the ruling planet that empowers the three-faced Rudraksha.

A person may have difficulty expressing anger when the mars in their chart is either weak or afflicted. This can lead to bottled up frustration and situations that can cause guilt later on. The three-mukhi rudraksha is a spiritual remedy to balance Mars-related energies.

It helps convert raw anger into willpower and motivation.
