nṛsiṁha-kavacaṁ vakṣye
prahlādenoditaṁ purā |
sarva-rakṣākaraṁ puṇyaṁ
sarvopadrava-nāśanam ||
Let me now share the sacred protective shield (kavaca) of Lord Nṛsiṁha, originally revealed by Prahlāda Mahārāja. It is supremely pure and holy, capable of granting total protection and destroying all misfortunes.
sarva-sampat-karaṁ caiva
svarga-mokṣa-pradāyakam |
dhyātvā nṛsiṁhaṁ deveśaṁ
hema-siṁhāsana-sthitam ||
This kavaca bestows all forms of wealth and prosperity. It can lead one to heavenly pleasures or ultimate liberation. Meditate upon Lord Nṛsiṁha, the Supreme Deity, seated majestically on a golden throne.
vivṛtāsyam tri-nayanaṁ
śarad-indu-sama-prabham |
lakṣmyāliṅgita-vāmāṅgaṁ
vibhūtibhir upāśritam ||
His mouth is wide open, His three eyes shine with wisdom, and His form glows like the autumn moon. Goddess Lakṣmī embraces His left side, and He is the resting place of all divine energies.
catur-bhujaṁ komalāṅgaṁ
suvarṇa-kuṇḍala-śobhitam |
saroja-śobhitoraskaṁ
ratna-keyūra-mudritam ||
He has four arms and a tender, graceful body. Golden earrings adorn His ears, and His chest glows like a lotus. Jeweled armlets add to the divine majesty of His arms.
tapta-kāñcana-saṅkāśaṁ
pīta-nirmala-vāsasam |
indrādi-sura-mauli-sthaḥ
sphuran-māṇikya-dīptibhiḥ ||
He is robed in flawless yellow garments, shining like molten gold. Crowns of demigods like Indra sparkle with rubies in His radiant presence.
virājita-pada-dvandvaṁ
śaṅkha-cakrādi-hetibhiḥ |
garutmataś ca vinayāt
stūyamānaṁ mudānvitam ||
His lotus feet shine brilliantly. He bears divine weapons like the conch and discus. Garuḍa, His devoted servant, praises Him joyfully and reverently.
sva-hṛt-kamala-saṁvāsaṁ
kṛtvā tu kavacaṁ paṭhet |
nṛsiṁho me śiraḥ pātu
loka-rakṣārtha-sambhavaḥ ||
Enthrone the Lord upon the lotus of your heart and then recite this kavaca. May Lord Nṛsiṁha, born to protect the cosmos, guard my head.
sarvago ‘pi stambha-vāsaḥ
phalaṁ me rakṣatu dhvanim |
nṛsiṁho me dṛśau pātu
soma-sūryāgni-locanaḥ ||
Though all-pervading, He revealed Himself from a pillar. May He protect my voice and speech. Let His eyes—like the moon, sun, and fire—protect my sight.
smṛtaṁ me pātu nṛhariḥ
muni-vārya-stuti-priyaḥ |
nāsaṁ me siṁha-nāsaś ca
mukhaṁ lakṣmī-mukha-priyaḥ ||
May Nṛhari, who is fond of sage’s praises, guard my memory. Let His lion-like nose protect mine, and may the beloved of Lakṣmī guard my mouth.
sarva-vidyādhipaḥ pātu
nṛsiṁho rasanaṁ mama |
vaktraṁ patv indu-vadanaṁ
sadā prahlāda-vanditaḥ ||
Lord Nṛsiṁha, master of all knowledge, may He protect my tongue and taste. Let His moon-like face, ever adored by Prahlāda, guard my face.
nṛsiṁhaḥ pātu me kaṇṭhaṁ
skandhau bhū-bhṛd ananta-kṛt |
divyāstra-śobhita-bhujaḥ
nṛsiṁhaḥ pātu me bhujaḥ ||
May the Lord protect my throat. He holds up the earth and performs endless miracles. With divine weapons adorning His arms, may He guard my shoulders and arms.
karau me deva-varado
nṛsiṁhaḥ pātu sarvataḥ |
hṛdayaṁ yogi-sādhyas ca
nivāsaṁ pātu me hariḥ ||
May the benevolent Lord protect my hands and every direction around me. Let He who is realized by yogis shield my heart and dwelling.
madhyaṁ pātu hiraṇyākṣa-
vakṣaḥ-kukṣi-vidāraṇaḥ |
nābhiṁ me pātu nṛhariḥ
sva-nābhi-brahma-saṁstutaḥ ||
May He who split open Hiraṇyākṣa’s chest protect my mid-region. May Nṛhari, praised even by Brahmā who emerged from His navel, protect my own.
brahmāṇḍa-koṭayaḥ kaṭyām
yasyāsau pātu me kaṭim |
guhyaṁ me pātu guhyānāṁ
mantrāṇāṁ guhya-rūpa-dṛk ||
May He who supports millions of universes upon His hips protect my waist. May He who knows all hidden truths guard my private parts.
ūru manobhavaḥ pātu
jānunī nara-rūpa-dṛk |
jaṅghe pātu dhara-dhara-
hartā yo ‘sau nṛ-keśarī ||
May the Lord who inspires desire protect my thighs. May He in human-like form guard my knees. Let the remover of Earth’s burdens protect my calves.
sura-rājya-pradaḥ pātu
pādau me nṛhariśvaraḥ |
sahasra-śīrṣā puruṣaḥ
pātu me sarvaśas tanum ||
May the giver of divine realms protect my feet. Let the Supreme Person with thousands of heads protect my entire body on all sides.
mahograḥ pūrvataḥ pātu
mahā-vīrāgrajo ‘ghniṭaḥ |
mahā-viṣṇur dakṣiṇe tu
mahā-jvālas tu nairṛtaḥ ||
Let the ferocious Lord guard the east, the eldest of heroes protect the southeast, the great Viṣṇu shield the south, and the blazing form watch over the southwest.
paścime pātu sarveśo
diśi me sarvato-mukhaḥ |
nṛsiṁhaḥ pātu vāyavyaṁ
saumyaṁ bhūṣaṇa-vigrahaḥ ||
May the Lord of all guard the west. May His all-seeing face watch every direction. Let the gentle yet mighty ornamented form protect the northwest.
īśānyaṁ pātu bhadro me
sarva-maṅgala-dāyakaḥ |
saṁsāra-bhayataḥ pātu
mṛtyor mṛtyur nṛ-keśarī ||
May the auspicious Lord bless me from the northeast and grant all well-being. Let the Lord, who is death to death itself, free me from the cycle of birth and death.
idaṁ nṛsiṁha-kavacaṁ
prahlāda-mukha-maṇḍitam |
bhaktimān yaḥ paṭhen nityaṁ
sarva-pāpaiḥ pramucyate ||
This Narasimha Kavacha, spoken by Prahlāda, is a precious jewel. Anyone who reads it with devotion is freed from all sins.
putravān dhanavān loke
dīrghāyur upajāyate |
kāmāyate yaṁ yaṁ kāmaṁ
taṁ taṁ prāpnoty asaṁśayam ||
The devotee gains children, wealth, and long life. Whatever one desires is surely attained.
sarvatra jayam āpnoti
sarvatra vijayī bhavet |
bhūmy-antarīkṣa-divyānāṁ
grahāṇāṁ vinivāraṇam ||
Success and victory follow him everywhere. The negative effects of all planets—earthly, celestial, and beyond—are neutralized.
vṛścikoraga-sambhūta-
viṣa-praharanaṁ param |
brahma-rākṣasa-yakṣāṇāṁ
durotsāraṇa-kāraṇam ||
It is the supreme antidote to poison from snakes and scorpions. Even dangerous spirits and ghostly beings like Brahma-rākṣasas and Yakṣas are expelled.
bhuje vā tāla-patre vā
kavacaṁ likhitaṁ śubham |
kara-mūle dhṛtaṁ yena
sidhyeyuḥ karma-siddhayaḥ ||
Whether written on one’s arm or on palm leaves and tied to the wrist, this sacred kavacha ensures success in all endeavors.
deva-asura-manuṣyeṣu
svam svam eva jayaṁ labhet |
eka-sandhyaṁ tri-sandhyaṁ vā
yaḥ paṭhet niyato naraḥ ||
Whether among gods, demons, or humans, the devotee triumphs. Reciting this once or three times daily assures this victory.
sarva-maṅgala-māṅgalyaṁ
bhuktiṁ muktiṁ ca vindati |
dva-triṁśati-sahasrāṇi
paṭhet śuddhātmanaṁ nṛṇām ||
A pure-hearted soul who recites this 32,000 times attains the best of auspiciousness, along with both material joy and liberation.
kavacasyāsya mantrasya
mantra-siddhiḥ prajāyate |
anena mantra-rājena
kṛtvā bhasmābhir mantrāṇām ||
This mantra is the king of all kavachas. Its practice yields all powers that other mantras and rituals with ash could give.
tilakaṁ vinyaset yas tu
tasya graha-bhayaṁ haret |
tri-vāraṁ japamānas tu
dattaṁ vāry abhimantrya ca ||
Marking the body with tilaka and chanting this mantra thrice with consecrated water removes fear of inauspicious planetary effects.
prasayed yo naro mantraṁ
nṛsiṁha-dhyānam ācaret |
tasya rogāḥ praṇaśyanti
ye ca syuḥ kukṣi-sambhavāḥ ||
One who chants this while meditating on Lord Nṛsiṁha is freed from diseases, especially those related to the abdomen.
garjantaṁ garjayantaṁ nija-bhuja-paṭalaṁ sphoṭayantaṁ hatantaṁ
rūpyantaṁ tāpayantaṁ divi bhuvi ditijān kṣepayantaṁ kṣipantam |
krandantaṁ roṣayantaṁ diśi diśi satataṁ saṁharantaṁ bharantaṁ
vikṣantaṁ pūrayantaṁ kara-nikara-śataiḥ divya-siṁhaṁ namāmi ||
I bow to the divine lion, roaring and making others roar. With His countless arms, He slays, crushes, and burns the demons. He roams the skies and earth, casting down Diti’s children, destroying them in rage, and yet sustains and nourishes all of creation.
iti śrī-brahmāṇḍa-purāṇe prahlādoktaṁ
śrī-nṛsiṁha-kavacam sampūrṇam ||
